Sarah Isabella PETERS worked for the Alders in the Railway business. Charlotte was visiting or possibly a nanny? to John Alders` sons for a while before moving to the Peters family house in Eastgate St., Louth after her fathers death.
Ann Alder, who became the wife of Henry Peters would have known the Peters family before marrying Henry. Henry was Rector of the Holy Trinity church, Sunderland, Durham for over twenty years.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Charlotte Coates of Louth in the County of Lincoln Widow
I give my sisters coffee pot to my Nephew John Henry Peters I give my gold watch with the guard and appendages to my great Niece Theodora Alder I give and bequeath unto William Henry Coates of Searby in said County of Lincoln Farmer and Grace Sharpley of Boswell in the Parish of South Elkington in the said County Farmer (who I hearby appoint as Trustees for this purpose) the plate? furniture and other household effects left to me by my late husband William Coates upon Trust within six calendar months after my decease to divide the same equally between Christopher Coates and William Coates the two sons of my said late husband and the decision of such Trustees or the survivor of them as to such division shall be final and conclusive But I declare that the said Christopher Coates shall have the option of taking the whole of the sches? plate as part of his share on going to the said William Henry Coates and Isaac Sharpley or the survivor of them notice in writing within one calendar month after my decease of his desire so to do I give and bequeath an Annuity of of Sixty two Pounds to my Brother Francis Peters during his life such Annuity to be paid by equal monthly payments and the first payment to be made at the experarion? of one calendar month after my decease And I charge the said Annuity upon all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath the following Legacies the payment of which I direct shall be postponed until the death of my said Brother Francis Peters and to be paid within six calendar months after his decease. At the age of 60 Thomas is recorded in 1861 as having 2 sons at home; Christopher George 1841, William Henry Coates 1839 - both farming & sister Eliza Margaret all in their 20s..b. Grainsby Lincs

They had two sons which it seems they also named Christopher 1825 also a farmer & William?
William was widowed later in life and married Charlotte PETERS in 1872. All three were buried together in Aylesby, Lincs.

SOME EXTRA BITS OF INFO:

It seems she didn’t marry until late in life – she married William Coates in 1872 when she was about 61 and he was in his late 60s. He was a widower and had two sons by his former wife Lydia, Christopher and William. All were prosperous farmers. Sadly William died just two years later. Charlotte, William and Lydia are all buried together in Aylesby, just west of Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

The Reverend Henry Peters (also made an Honorary Canon) M.A. was “Rector of Sunderland Parish” for well over 30 years based at Holy Trinity Church Sunderland. Henry married ANNE ALDER in 1850.
In 1841 Anne was still a teenager at home, she may have already met Henry her future husband - Charlotte Peters was living with Anne`s uncle George and his family next door to Anne`s family in Wright Street, Sculcoates, Hull, a street of quite substantial houses. Whether Charlotte was just living there or being a governess to the four boys we don’t know. But in 1851 Charlotte is visiting friends in London and is described as a woman of independent means and property!
Still in 1841 but in Eastgate, Louth, Robert Peters is aged 75 and a widower living with his grown up children, son Robert and daughter Mary in their late 30s, 40s, and Francis and Sarah in their early 30s, none of whom appear married. Then in 1851 the census records show Robert at 84 and Francis 45 are the only ones living in the Eastgate house, both are described as retired farmers. In the same year the Louth directory records Francis Peters of Eastgate a “Gent”. So one has to assume Robert was a successful farmer as was Francis.
NB (all the families had a least one servant living in too as people did then, although Henry Peters had several).
Robert Peters dies in 1855 at about 90 and the 1861 census shows that son Francis at 54 is now the head in Eastgate, Louth, Charlotte is living there, both are described as Annuitants, living on their own means.
Sister Sarah Isabella Peters however, has now moved in and remains living with George Alder and his wife Elizabeth and family, in a later census while there, she is recorded as a Railway proprietress.
The following makes some sense of the Railway bit.
John (b.1792) and George (b.1790) ALDER, corn merchants of Sculcoates, Hull. We know that John became a freeman of Hull and was connected to the Hull &
Selby railway. Believe he was also an Elder of Trinity House.
The ALDER brothers are recorded as Merchants on the census`s but it turns out that they were extremely successful Seed and Corn Merchants, their warehouse was in Hull near to the river. Their names are linked to farm land and property too. George and Johns probate records record that they left £30k and £35k respectively which must have been considered a great deal of money in the 1860s/70s!
Back to the Peters – There are references to a John Peters who lived in Scopwick in the early 1700s, where Robert was born. John was a farmer and married an Elizabeth Allenby they had a son Robert – the dates work and as one of Henry Peter`s children have the middle name of Allenby it could be right. John and Elizabeth are recorded as living in Kirby Le Mire, near Scopwick, Lincs. There was also another earlier Robert Peters in that area, a farmer. But hard to prove anything without proper birth certificates etc and in the rural early 1700s its less likely to find useful certificates i.e with fathers names on.
The 1871 census records Arthur Peters and his two younger brothers, Charles and Herbert living with their aunt and uncle in Louth, possibly for schooling purposes as Louth boasts one of the oldest schools in the UK pre William the Conqueror! King Edward VI Grammar school.
Arthur became a successful Bank Clerk and was retired by 55 when recorded as a retd Bank Accountant according to the 1911 census. He is living with his wife in what appears to be a largish house in Clipsham, Rutland, with two servants. Arthur Peters Jnr is not far away at Uppingham School, Rutland, another old and prestigious educational establishment.
Arthur`s brothers become respectively; John Henry Peters a Wine Merchant and Brewer. Robert Allenby (great grandmothers name?) Peters a Master Mariner lived in London area, Henry Alder Peters, a Solicitor & Reverned,his name appears on various Probates and documents. Mary remained unmarried living with her parents and later with her widowed mother.
Charlotte`s Will mentions members of the Sharpley family – they are neighbouring farmers and friends of the Coates according to the census`s. George Alder had four sons, George the eldest is mentioned in the Will. Herbert Peters has been left out or maybe he died. Henry Robert Alder, the second son of George Alder becomes a Reverend in Barnsley and later of Eastbourne and is the sole Executor of her Will. John Alder had a daughter Mary who could be one of the nieces mentioned.
The second Arthur Peters is awarded the MC for his Service in the WW1. He was a Captain in the Leceister Regiment. He marries Margaret Francis Dodgson in 1924. They become farmers acquiring Blagdon farm on Cranbourne Chase, near Wimborne, Dorset. They had two children (Arthur) Robert b 1927, who is still farming in Sussex in his 90s! And Margaret ‘Stella’ b 1929. Robert`s son Mark continues to farm in Sussex.
